Gilbert & George are the latest to collaborate with Supreme’s Artist Series, which has previously seen the New York streetwear giant partner with Damien Hirst, Larry Clark and Nan Goldin, among others. The collection – which will encompass two hooded sweatshirts, three T-shirts and three skateboards – features works from the British art duo’s seminal 27-piece series 1984 Pictures, made during the 1980s. The large grid-like photomontages make up some of Gilbert & George’s most memorable and controversial works, featuring themes they would return to throughout their career: class, corruption, sex and death. “We want our art to bring out the bigot from inside the liberal and conversely to bring out the liberal from inside the bigot,” they said.
